AAW Symposium 2009 Albuquerque NM
July 9th, 2009 | Published in woodturning
We just returned from a great trip to the symposium in Albuquerque. Deb and I decided to drive out simply because of all that we had to bring with us tools wise. When our friend Peter Hromek heard that we were driving out he and his wife Ellen asked if they could ride along with us, to which we of course said yes! Peter and Ellen are from Germany and I don’t think they really understood what they were in for, during the drive home they admitted that they are not use to being in the car for such long days, they really got a good grip on how big this country really is!
The symposium itself was great as always, all that action all those old friends and all that Lathe Art all in one place all at one time, always a blast! Peter was full on demonstrator with 6 rotations and Deb and I stayed most of the time in our HannesTool booth. We have the tools in full production now and are looking forward to a bright future for them and us, the tools are receiving a warm reception everywhere we go with them.
After the symposium was over we drove westward because we had promised Peter and Ellen the Grand Canyon and of course we were up for that as well, it was amazing as always. When we turned east we drove thru Monument Valley on to Arches National Park followed by an incredible scenic drive along the Colorado River on rt 128 then up into the Rockies on I 70 thru the Eisenhower tunnel and maybe the best of all we drove to the top of Mt Evans 14,270 feet of elevation. The weather was a bit sketchy and we almost decided to not go but it turned out to be the best part, I had been up twice before and Deb once both times in good weather but this time with clouds, rain and wind it was extra special; added a great deal to the excitement of it all, before it was over we saw snow pellets and 39 degrees, WOW!!! After that it was a hard push for home, Boring but we made it in three days.
Here are a few pix of our travels, to see more go my web album here.
